Web site performance alerts by mobile phone introduced by Keynote and Mobileway.
Mobileway has announced a deal to provide SMS text message services to Keynote
Systems, the worldwide leader in e-commerce benchmarking and Web performance
management services. Using Mobileway's technology, Keynote can send instant
alerts to Webmasters anywhere in Europe via their mobile phones, regardless of
network operator or geographical location. By using SMS text messaging in addition
to email, Webmasters can now respond much faster to web site performance alerts.
With a growing number of companies regarding their sites as 'mission critical',
Keynote expects increasing use of this new communication channel. Among the
companies using the Keynote services in Europe today are Barclays Capital, eTrade,
Citibank, Bertelsman, British Airways, Sun Microsystems, BBC, Bank of Scotland,
Philips, Wanadoo, Accor, ABN AMRO, Tesco, Nationwide, Enron, Dresdner Bank,
Siemens, Nokia, Ericsson, Volvo Cars, Scandinavia Online, Föreningssparbanken,
Bank Fyne, Compaq or Toyota Europe.
Because Mobileway has business partnerships and direct network connections with
more than 60 mobile phone service operators globally, Keynote is able to offer alerts
anywhere. As well as Europe, Keynote will soon extend its service to cover the Asia-
Pacific region using Mobileway's already-established routing infrastructure in that
region. Using Mobileway means Keynote does not have to negotiate separate
contracts with multiple network operators. This 'one-stop-shopping' aspect was an
important factor in Keynote's decision to partner with Mobileway.
"Our services are mission critical to companies serious about growing and improving
their e-businesses, so this new SMS text message alert facility is a significant
addition to the delivery channels of our service offering," said Eric Nataf, director of
product marketing for Keynote in Europe.
"We chose Mobileway because they have direct and strong relationships with more
mobile phone network operators globally than any other company in this area.
Mobileway's billing flexibility was another factor, allowing us to get reports by
individual customer, by region or by country." Bruno Coindre, executive vice-president
for Mobileway's EMEA region adds: "With over 700 million messages sent each
month in the UK alone, most people know that SMS has become a massive
phenomenon at the consumer level. Keynote's new service proves SMS is a very
efficient way to reach enterprise users in business-critical applications. There is no
doubt that many more companies will be using this channel to reach their target
audiences instantly through mobile phones, irrespective of their location or network
operator, through the deployment of customised and relevant services."
Editors' note: How the service works. Keynote's SMS alert service is fully
automated. As soon as a customer's website falls below customer-defined performance
standards, an alert message is generated, that is routed by Mobileway as an SMS
text to the end customer's designated mobile phones. Mobileway bills back the
cost of each text message it sends to Keynote, which then recharges its own customers.
