Hotmail and Instant Messenger from ninemsn now available on Optus post paid mobile

Hotmail, the world’s most popular free, web based email service and Instant Messenger, (IM) are now available via short message service (SMS) on Optus post paid mobile.
The Mobile Hotmail and Mobile Instant Messenger service will allow Optus post paid mobile customers to browse their Hotmail Inbox and receive and send messages through their mobile phones.
The service, enabled in part by Mobileway, a leader in deploying and managing secure mobile transactions, will also enable IM conversations between PCs and Optus post paid mobile phones. Users will have access to their ‘buddy’ list and the ability to send and receive Instant Messages.
Filters allow the user to control which Hotmail e-mail messages can be sent to their mobile phone by selecting from a range of criteria including subject, sender and email address. This process helps users to focus on the most important messages while on the move and avoid spam.

Optus post paid mobile users will be charged 25 cents (GST inclusive) for each text message sent from and to their handsets. To activate the service, Optus post paid mobile customers need to have a Hotmail or Microsoft Passport account.
